Welcome To Our World

Want to get a feel for Mexico at home? If so try some of the following:
*Soak all of your fruit in bleach water for 10 minutes
*Ring a bell when the trash truck comes to alert the neighbors
*Grill out on a busy sidewalk and string up a tarp
*Greet friends by saying; “Como estas” (How are you?)
*Listen to a sermon in Spanish

While these things can give you a feel, making the actual transition has been a bit more of a challenge for our family. Much of the year has been spent continuing to work on language, learning how others live, and beginning to reach out to friends and neighbors in small ways.

On one hand an encouraging thing that has happened is our opportunity to give Bibles to many of these same people. One such opportunity was with Carlos*. While talking with him it became obvious he needed guidance. I was able to give him a Bible and recommend he read John. After a number of attempts to see him again had failed, we were finally able to connect. What was practically the first thing he said? “I read John and it was perfect for me. What should I read next?”

On the other hand, Alihandro has a store just across from our home. We have been there many times and it didn’t take long to notice the images of the “saints” on the upper shelf. Recently something on the bottom shelf caught my eye. It was the flicker of a candle. Never had I seen that before. I looked closer. There to my horror and heartbreak they were honoring the Saint of Death.

While we may give away Bibles, help the poor, extend hospitality, share the gospel, host teams, bring light into the darkness, do loving acts of kindness, we are here first and foremost to give worship to the Lamb of God in this sun scorched land. Service may come and go, people may be receptive or apathetic, the days may be up or down, but every day we are able to rise up and praise Him.

Since our arrival in Mexico we have lived in Cuernavaca but after returning from training in Portland, Oregon, we will be moving to Puebla. There we will join our team along with two other new families.

Your continued attention to holding the ropes is never wasted. Here are some things that you can pray about:

1) God’s hand in our move to Puebla – strategic location; changes and adjustments for us all
2) Mexican families would come to know the fullness of Christ
3) For our team over the next year as we work and learn together
4) Mundane, routine or even a difficult life will be an overflowing life
5) Daniel, Maria, Christina in ways that we don’t even know how to ask

Worship Christ together,

Ken & Diana
Daniel, Maria, Christina
